Since March 2007, through Operation Mend, Patti has been a case manager to wounded soldiers. The person who nominated her for the Nursing Excellence Award in 2010 says soldiers and their families are her passion. She meets soldiers and their families upon arrival to Los Angeles and is their ambassador for the entire surgical experience. She is at their bedside in the recovery room as they awaken in order to decrease their anxiety postoperatively.

How Patti Was Selected as a Float Rider

Patti was invited by as an honored guest for being nominated and winning a 2010 National Nurses of the Year Award. Patti won under the Community Service category,  “This outstanding nurse epitomizes the best of who nurses are and what this wonderful profession of ours has to offer,” said Eileen P. Williamson, RN, MSN, senior vice president, nursing communications & initiatives. “We are honored to have the privilege of recognizing her contributions to the nursing profession. She is a true nursing role model who is visionary, talented, professional and committed.”
